This year’s theme, “Partnering to Keep the Colorado River Clean,” brings together community partners, environmental experts, students, exhibitors, and residents for a day of education, inspiration, and hands-on opportunities to make a difference.
Throughout the day, explore exhibits and presentations covering air quality, habitat conservation, groundwater, household hazardous waste, zero-waste practices, sustainable living, and more. The event will also celebrate local students through the Plastic Collection Challenge and the Waste to Wonder Recycled Art Contest, showing how young people can turn environmental awareness into action and creativity.
Event Day Highlights
The day begins with an opening ceremony at 10:00 AM, followed by presentations and activities throughout the day, including:

HISTORY
In 2011, Smithville hosted its first Green EXPO (it was also called the Eco/Photo Fest in 2020 and 2021). The name has changed with time, but the intention of this event has always been to bring resources, ideas, information, goods, and services that will help our community reduce its carbon footprint and make Smithville one of the most sustainable communities in Texas.
This year, we have rebranded the program as the "Sustainable Home & Garden Event" in the hopes of higher participant turnout in the downtown business district. October 1st will be a very busy day, with this event, the Community Wide Garage Sale and Music Festival occurring simultaneously!
In addition to the live event, we have invited speakers on a broad range of topics, such as birding, composting, affordable electric cars, landscaping with native plants, sustainable living, and sustainable building. We truly thank all of our amazing SPEAKERS and the wealth of knowledge and resources they have provided for our community.
Thanks also to the SPONSORS who provide funds for a community-oriented project after the event, the VENDORS who bring such great ideas and stuff to consider, thanks to the DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES for their participation as a Bite Site and Scavenger Hunt location, and the many VOLUNTEERS who make find a way to get everything done in time for a great event! Thanks to City Council member Janice Bruno who is trying to reach 500 voices through her Housing Huddle Series for letting us have a Roundtable at this event. And finally, THANK YOU to Ms. Lisa Prihoda and her art students who have made some truly incredible sustainability-themed artwork for the Event Program and for display at the LPAA Gallery on Main at 206 Main Street.
