The Jamboree celebration is the first long weekend after Easter. The 51st celebration will be from at Riverbend Park and on Saturday, March 29 in downtown Smithville.
At Riverbend Park will be live music and dances, a carnival, food vendors, a pet show for the kids, tournaments testing skills with horseshoes, washers and softball teams. A mustache and beard contest is also held. The library holds a pre-Jamboree coloring contest with the results given at the pet show. For more information call city hall at 512-237-3282.
The Chamber hosts the city’s traditional afternoon parade west down Loop 230 and back north on Main Street. The parade has a slightly new route, mainly in set up, this year for safety reasons, but will still head west on Loop 230 and north on Main. Also, in 2007 a new entry category was been added with children, pets and bicycles to get the younger crowd involved.
Also included downtown are free Children’s Games and Arts & Crafts Show/Sale.
For more information or to participate, call the Smithville Area Chamber of Commerce at 512-237-2313 or download one of the forms to send in by mail or fax.
