THUNDER ON THE COLORADO - Thunder XI is just around the corner on May 5-7, 2017! Be sure to mark your calendars, from the Mixer on May 4 hosted by Centex Image Designs, the parade down Main Street on May 5, the great live music and vendors and all the rest. www.thunderonthecolorado.org
Annual Fly-In and Lunch - Sat., May 13. Smithville Airport. Come and watch all types of planes land and take off, have lunch and buy raffle tickets for great prizes. Be sure to bring all the kiddos for the Candy Drop! 10:00am–3:00pm. The airport’s Courtesy Van will be running during the event, sending folks into town to shop. If you’re interested in volunteering for this great event, which brings aviation tourists from all over Central Texas, give us a call at the Chamber (512) 237-2313.

May 6 – Smithville Chamber of Commerce Keep Smithville Beautiful Committee is co-sponsoring the City Wide Clean Up on Saturday, May 6. Do you have large trash items in your yard or at your business? Bun Run for the Cure – Saturday, May 6. The Bun Run for the Cure is a 5k/10k race and family event that takes place in charming and historic Smithville, TX. This is the 8th Annual race. Go to bunrunforthecure.com to register. There will be an after party at Pocket’s Grill.

Smithville Stitcher’s Quilt Guild – Open House. Mon., May 8. 11:30am – 4:00pm. First United Methodist Church. 400 Olive St. All quilters and anyone interested in quilting are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. See community projects that the Guild is working on. See quilts in progress and finished quilts by their members. See their Block of the Month patterns. They will also have interactive displays of various techniques and patterns. Their 2017 Donation Quilt “Point Taken” will be on display.
Bastrop County Mental Retardation Association (BCMRA) hosts a Canteen dance for those with special needs at the Smithville Recreation Center, 106 Royston. The dance is from 6:30-9 p.m. and the admission charge is $2, May 12.
Bastrop YMCA announces that May 20 is Splash Day at the Bastrop State Park Pool! Pool entrance fees are waived from 1 to 6pm. Join them for this first Saturday of the season! Find out about all the programs being offered at the Y this summer!!
