    CANDIDATE FORUM:  Plan to attend the Chamber-sponsored annual Candidate Forum, scheduled for April 17, 6:30pm at the Smithville Recreation Center.  All candidates running in opposed races for City Council and School Board will attend and answer questions submitted by the community. 

    COMMERCIAL PROPERTY TOUR: The Smithville Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring a Commercial Property Tour of available commercial spaces in Smithville on Saturday, April 28th, 10am-2pm, beginning at 301 Main Street.  Come by, pick up a map, and take a tour of the many amazing commercial properties available.  Agents and/or owners will be available at all properties to answer questions and give tours.  Do you or someone you know need a commercial space to expand into – from your current space or to grow your home-based business into a retail space of your own?  Call April Daniels at 512-237-2313 for details. 

    MUSIC IN THE PARK:  In partnership with the Smithville Cultural District, the Chamber of Commerce will be hosting live music in the railroad park gazebo downtown – our inaugural event with the WATTS BROTHERS BAND was a big success!  Up next on Thursday, April 26 from 6pm to 8pm we’ll have the BLAKE TORREY BAND.  These are FREE concerts from fantastic musicians from all over Central Texas and will continue on the second and fourth Thursdays of April, May & June.  On the fourth Thursday of each month we will also host a Sip, Shop & Stroll event with lots of businesses open serving treats and beverages and artists along Main Street and in the Park.  This is FREE for all to attend so bring out your lawn chairs, load up the kiddos and head downtown for a great time!  

    The Chamber’s April Business of the Month is The Looking Glass, 1655 NE Loop in Smithville, (512) 237-4700. The Looking Glass offers so many fantastic services in Smithville, from tanning to salon services to massage therapy, dry cleaning, 24-hour gym and storage units! 

    CHAMBER APRIL MIXER & RIBBON CUTTING: Join us on Thursday, April 19 at 5pm at Iron Tiger Gym, 316 Main Street for our monthly mixer AND ribbon cutting for Iron Tiger Gym as they celebrate their one-year anniversary.  Food, beverages and fun await you at this great networking event.

    RIBBON CUTTING:  TexStyles Designer Fabric Showroom, 314 Main Street in Smithville at 10am.  To celebrate becoming the ONLY Brick & Mortar Store in Texas to Carry the Entire Ella Blue Apparel Line TexStyles is throwing a bit of a party!     CAREER FAIR AT SMITHVILLE HIGH SCHOOL – WILL YOU PARTICIPATE?  The Smithville ISD Career Fair is on Friday, May 11th from 8am to 3pm at Smithville High School.  If your business would like to participate please contact Martha Chabot at martha.chabot@ruralcapital.net or call the Chamber at 512-237-2313.   The Career Fair is a great way to meet potential new employees, help Smithville’s young people find out about your business and profession and network with your fellow business owners at the event.  We hope to see you there!

    The Smithville General Store will be hosting a DVD signing and cocktail party for the SXSW Award - Winning Documentary "Honky Tonk Heaven: The Legend of the Broken Spoke" on Thursday, April 19 at 6:30pm.  Smithville's own Brenda Greene Mitchell directed and produced this Austin, TX gem of a film. Live music will start at the event and then move over to Honey's across the street for country dancing on the patio with the James Soto Band.
